Training Opportunity: Managing Lost-Trapped Firefighter EventsTuesday, November 6 2007 Lost/trapped firefighter events are extremely taxing to the incident command system and to all personnel involved in the incident. The effective management of this type of incident requires that the problem be segmented into smaller more manageable challenges at the strategic, tactical, and task level. This training class is geared towards incident commanders, unit officers, and those personnel who aspire to be officers. The course will focus on the folowing lost-trapped firefighter issues: 1. The strategic, tactical, and task level responsibilities. 2. The need to clearly define the different levels of rapid intervention management functions. 3. The requirement to set precise measurable objectives for the rapid intervention team. 4. What the resource requirements are and what triggers the need to request more resources. 5. What the incident commander, unit officers, and individual crew members need to do to keep everyone out of trouble in the first place. 6. What you can expect to go wrong when a lost-trapped firefighter event occurs-so try not to let it happen. 7. Search hiearchy; attack the problem closest to where the problem exists. 8. The need for a methodical, documented, grid search. 9. The importance of the task level supervisor and the need to manage action on the inside. 10. The importance of support operations. 11.
