A Focused Approach at Further Developing Tactical Operations and Technical Skills at Trench Collapse Events
This three day course is designed for rescuers who have already completed Technician Level trench collapse training and want to further develop their trench search and rescue skills. This course will enhance job performance requirements when operating in class “C” soil conditions, at excavation work sites, and during difficult entrapment situations. This course includes:
1.Excavation Wall Modified Raker Shoring Concepts-This wok station will develop skills for the application of stabilization techniques at excavation sites where the excavation is wider then it is deep and traditional shoring methods cannot be utilized. Skill development will focus on effective tool applications, and use of rigging equipment for construction and placement of modified raker shores. Several different methods will be taught.
2.Running and Saturated Soil Cut Back Techniques-This work station will enhance rescuers capabilities to operate at trench collapses that occur in running and/or saturated soil conditions. The application of cut back operations utilizing a backhoe or other type of machinery to allow rescuers to access the victim will be taught. Cut back operational planning and protection of live victims is a primary objective of this work station. Several different cut back methods will be taught.
3.Running and Saturated Soil Trench Box Applications-This work station will allow rescuers the opportunity to see the difficulties of utilizing trench boxes and shields, learn when trench shields are the appropriate option, and experience working in and around a trench box in a simulated collapse scenario. Students will learn capabilities and limitations of various trench boxes and shield and they will gain a better understanding of what to expect when applying these tools within a trench collapse environment.
4.Extreme Entrapment Problem Solving-This work station will build rescuers skills and improve their knowledge relative to rescuing patients that are trapped under heavy loads and other debris at a trench collapse. Rescuers will hone their shoring skills, apply stabilization and lifting concepts, and package and move patients that are trapped in small compact voids.
This course is primarily designed for rescue teams who have already completed trench rescue training and are looking to further enhance their skill levels.
